Reading

​

The purpose of our reading program is to develop thoughtful readers who love to read! The “Reading Workshop”  model allows for individually-tailored instruction for each student in the class.  It also allows more time in class for students to read self-selected fiction and non-fiction texts at an appropriate reading level.  Research shows that the amount of independent reading children do each day is related to gains in reading achievement, vocabulary development, and academic success. 

 

Students are taught to be active, thoughtful readers and to share their thinking in both discussions and in writing. To accomplish this, I read quality literature aloud to the class and each child reads independently each day.
